On Tuesday, Sept. 27^th Cold Stone Creamery and the Make-A-Wish Foundation are inviting everyone to take part in the 10^th Annual World’s Largest Ice Cream Social. From 5-8 p.m., all Cold Stone locations will be giving away a FREE 3-ounce portion of the Sprinkled with Wishes Creation, Sweet Cream Ice Cream mixed with Brownie, Rainbow Sprinkles and Fudge. Guests are encouraged to make donations to the Make-A-Wish foundation during this event. Additionally, throughout the entire month of September, every Cold Stone store nationwide will sell paper wish stars for $1 each to help raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. This is the 10^th year Cold Stone Creamery has supported the Make-A-Wish Foundation and they have raised over $4 million to help change the lives of children with life-threatening medical conditions. Everyone is encouraged to make a donation to ensure that the 10^th annual ice cream social is the most successful yet. YUM!! Always love eating for a good cause :)

If you’re looking for last minute ways to transform your home for the 4^th of July, premier New York caterer and Founder of Between the Bread, Ricky Eisen, offers insider tips on putting together a simple and beautiful Fourth of July party..

1. To give your table a decorated look, layer the table cloths. Mix colors, textures and sizes. I especially like tablecloths which have fringes. Mix and match lanterns to give further complexity to the table. If you are using a wooden table, don't cover it entirely. Let some of the wood show.

2. Although fresh flowers are always a great addition to any buffet, for a more cost effective alternative use fresh fruit such as pineapple, melon and plums. Find a tree bark as the anchor to the center of the table, add twigs and leafy branches from the garden and you can have a great centerpiece, most of which can be eaten later.

3. If your party is outdoors, a fun addition to the Fourth of July decor are sparkling candles which are available at most paper supply stores. Use votive candles and protect the flames with paper bags (available at every supermarket.) These makeshift lanterns can mark the pathways from the street to the party, decorate the buffet and add light to a darkened spot.

4. Extra long wooden skewers are ideal for larger gatherings. Earlier in the day (if you have enough refrigeration space you can do this the day before,) skewer shrimp, chicken, beef, sausage, hot dogs and vegetables which you've cut into two bite portions, marinate and grill as needed. It will take less time to grill and your guests will not need eating implements.

Since I have been driving the Land Cruiser around for the last couple days - there are definitely good and bad feelings about this car. I love love love the room!! I feel like the inside is about the same size of my bathroom, seriously, it feels that big! lol! That is one major factor I look for when buying a vehicle is the inside room - I do not like to feel enclosed and cramped - especially with all the driving we do! Now with all the driving we do - comes the gas factor - ugh! I don't think I have ever spent so much money on gas! I will have more as we get into the week, I just wanted to give you a little insight as to where we were with this!

Are you ready to ShakeOut?
With 37 million people living and working in California, a major earthquake could cause unprecedented devastation. What we do now, before a big earthquake, will determine what our lives will be like afterwards. With earthquakes an inevitable part of California’s future, we must act quickly to ensure that disasters do not become catastrophes.

The Great California ShakeOut in October 2009 involved nearly 6.9 million Californians through a broad-based outreach program, media partnerships, and public advocacy by hundreds of partners. The drill will be held statewide annually on the third Thursday of October, and is organized by the Earthquake Country Alliance (http://www.earthquakecountry.org/). The 2010 Great California ShakeOut earthquake drill will be at 10:21 AM on October 21.

A key aspect of the ShakeOut is the integration of comprehensive science-based earthquake research and the lessons learned from decades of social science research about why people get prepared. The result is a “teachable moment” on par with having an actual earthquake (often followed by increased interest in getting ready for earthquakes). ShakeOut creates the sense of urgency that is needed for people, organizations, and communities to get prepared, to practice what to do to be safe, and to learn what plans need to be improved.

Not just any drill will accomplish this; it needs to be big. It must inspire communities to come together. It must involve children at school and parents at work, prompting conversations at home. It must allow every organization, city, etc., to make it their own event.

The 2010 ShakeOut drill will be the largest preparedness event in U.S. history. To participate, go to www.ShakeOut.org/register and pledge your family, school, business, or organization’s participation in the drill. Registered participants will receive information on how to plan their drill and how to create a dialogue with others about earthquake preparedness. All organizers ask is that participants register (so they can be counted and receive communications), and at the minimum practice "drop, cover, and hold on" at the specified time. It is only a five minute commitment for something that can save your life. It all begins with registering, which is free and open to everyone.

I have to say wow!! When I saw that it was a red car they were giving me I thought oh - great, just means now I really have to watch my speed!! After driving it down the street I worried even more......wow this car had speed!! This is my absolute favorite thing about this car is it's speed! I feel like I'm driving a race car....the steering is powerful it takes some strength and sometimes even two hands when turning a corner. I love that I can get that sporty feel but yet can still fit my family in the car. I'll have more on the car later, but just wanted to share this tad bit with you so far!! Love it!!

Once school starts I start getting excited out the upcoming seasons! It's a very special time of year when many of us have so much going on as well as the fun events around Southern California. Have you had the opportunity to experience Halloween at the Disneyland Parks? I use to love to take my kids out around the neighborhood trick or treating. But in today's society it seems so unsafe and hardly anyone else it out anymore. This is a great alternative that the kids will love!!
Mickey's Halloween Party moves to Disneyland Park this year, it's previously been held inside California Adventure. I think this is a good move and it will be even more so enjoyed! This is a private event that closes the park for guests who hold a ticket to the event only. That makes it nice because it does not feel over crowded and you are actually able to enjoy the event.
Some fun and exciting changes have been made this year which include -
•With the event being held inside Disneyland Park you'll have access to almost all the attractions including the themed out Haunted Mansion and Space Mountain.

I am so not use to driving a big truck so when we turned in the car for the 2010 Toyota Tundra, all I can say is I was a bit nervous!! I had my children with me who encouraged me and told me how good I was doing, which honestly made me feel so much more comfortable! We made it home - after about a two hour drive thanks to LA traffic! I have to say the first thing I looked at when we finally made it home was the gas. I had expected driving a big truck that I would be almost out of gas already - when in fact it did not even use half a tank! Very impressive! I did find the ride a bit bumpy and kept thinking we had a flat tire - but I think that not only had to do with the way the truck drove but also again thanks to our great LA freeways! One more quick note - I love love love the seats!! They sit so far back and are so comfortable it honestly feels like you're sitting on a couch.

We are right in the middle of Los Angeles, Orange County and the Inland Empire - so we're off to do some driving with the 2010 Toyota Tundra....where should we go??

2010 Toyota 4Runner

I have always been a fan of the Toyota 4Runner! It's not huge and it's not tiny like a car - so considered a mid-size SUV. It's great for someone like me who gets nervous when driving larger vehicles but can't stand the cramped room of a small car. I like the rugged feel to it - made me want to go off roading on all this open land we have out here! My views as a mother of four children.....

Exterior - 3 stars out of five
The style has been redesigned and every time I glance at it, it reminds of of a Lexus. It's sleek look turned many heads and we drove the highways of Southern California.   I was impressed with the overall redesign. It kept it's rugged look while also looking classy at the same time.

Interior - 3 1/2 stars out of five
We reviewed the Limited which did have room for seven passengers, although the regular 4Runner seats only five. There was a ton of room which as a mother to four children this is a top priority. With school, baseball and friends - this is one of the features we look at first. I cannot stand being cramped, especially with the amount of driving that we do I want everyone to be able to be comfortable and rested up for the event we are attending.   My oldest son loved the AUX input so he could plug in his music for us to all listen too....in fact I hid this from him and he ending up finding it!! LOL! The driving of the vehicle seemed a bit "loose" meaning that it sometimes felt as if I have very little control of the 4Runner - the steering wheel seemed very sensitive.  It did have a lot of power which I loved hearing that engine rev up as I would climb the mountains on the north side of Los Angeles! The 2010 4Runner also is fit with an improved fuel economy so I did not have to stop as often to fill up.

We live in the high desert part of Los Angeles where we have a ton of open land - I think this is probably why a lot of car commercials film out here.   I also love it because since I do a lot of driving and running around with the kids I have a great opportunity to really get a feel of each vehicle I drive and can give my honest opinion as a mother.

I had an opportunity to get a sneak peak at the all new 2011 Honda Odyssey a few weeks ago. Now I'm not a mini van person, so I'm sure your anxious to see what I think of this! The 2011 Honda Odyssey has been completely redesigned. They wanted a style that when looking into a parking lot for your car, this is something that would stand out and be "different" than the other mini vans out there. Personally the style is the is the only part about the vehicle that I'm not too keen too. Sorry Honda, but this one is just not something I would buy if based on style.....but and I say a huge but - because of the other features of the vehicle it would be something I would invest in, and yes, drive! What's that saying we tell out kids "doesn't matter what's on the outside, it's what is inside that's important!" So...let's get past the style and take a look inside this amazing and very modernized vehicle.

Wasn't that just amazing!!! I have never seen a car seat five car seats in one mini van!! As a Mom with two children still in booster seats - I love how you can fit three car seats just in the second row! Almost makes me want to have a baby around again.......almost!! LOL!! Other things I love -

The 2011 Odyssey is named "The American Odyssey" as it was completely designed, engineered and assembled in America! Love that!!
The entertainment system is amazing!! Did you see that screen in the video? Wow!! That is on of the features of the Odyssey Touring - at 16.2 inches wide, the RES screen is the largest ever offered by Honda. It is also the most versatile, because it can simultaneously show two different sources of programming side-by-side, such as a video game and a movie, for different passengers.

My number one favorite feature about the 2011 Odyssey is the amount of room it has. The seats are so wide and the leg room is plenty! Besides the many other of my "Mom" favorites being the trash ring, cool box, traffic updates, personalized wall paper, easy pull down 3rd row seats and so much more that I could seriously go on and on. So who cares what's on the outside - heck, I'm a 30 something Mom with four kids - I deserve to be comfortable and drive something that meets my needs as a busy Mom!! LOVE IT!!!!

As I have said before I am not a fan of the mini-van. I never wanted to be called a mini-van mom! But as I get older I think, what the heck am I worrying about? Who cares what they call me! I deserve to drive a comfortable vehicle and have plenty of room for my entire family plus all the gear we travel with. Most days you'll find me escorting the kids to school, picking them and their friends up, dropping each one off at their house, running errands / doctor appointments, sports for the boys and back home! We have backpacks, electronics, snacks / drinks and baseball gear to haul along with us. Room is mandatory when looking for a vehicle for a family of six and the Toyota Sienna seemed to have plenty of it!

One of my favorite things about the van was it's smooth drive. It literally felt as if we were just gliding down the highway! I could not believe how smooth the drive was! It handled so well and was great for the kids so that they could nap peacefully without being jerked around too much.

Chevy Traverse

All throughout the Laker's playoff series watching commercial after commercial of the Chevy Traverse - I have been dying to check this SUV out!! We just paid off our van a few months ago and it's about on it's way out. Now those who know me know that I am not a minivan mom! I personally can't stand minivans! Nothing against them - they can be roomy and relaxing - but it's just not me.

When the Chevy Traverse was dropped off it was so much smaller than I expected it to be. I was a bit disappointed. The commercials made it look so much bigger! None the less, I jumped in and drove it around the block for a quick test run. As soon as I got in I loved it!! As I drove it around a bit I noticed the seats are more straight up and down, not so slouched like most cars. It helped my posture without taking away the comfort. There was plenty of room up front - while my four kids gave the back a thumbs down. I have four kids - with my youngest at five and my oldest at 14. The two little ones did not have any complaints as they are at that age they love to crawl around and get into anything they can. My two older ones, especially my 11 year old daughter was not happy with the room or should I say lack of room she had in the back.

We live in the high desert, where temps can reach well over 100 most days during the summer. I can't stand the heat, so you'll always see me with the air on and blasting full force. We got plenty of cool air from the Traverse - but it also seemed to slow us down quite a bit as far as power was concerned.

One of my favorite things was the OnStar system - it comes with one year of service. We used this twice during the week we had the car. Once - we were driving down the freeway and my youngest daughter was hungry so called and asked for the nearest McDonald's off the freeway in the direction we were headed. The operator was so nice and helpful - giving us all the information that was needed. It seems to make so much since for all cars to have this feature. As I drive my own car now, I really miss this as it can be so helpful! This was a big plus!!

I love love the Chevy Traverse. In fact I so dearly miss it very much!! Although the inside is smaller than expected, it does make up for it in other aspects. Such as the On-Star Navigation which is a huge help to any family! Especially if you have little ones and travel a lot. The car was very comfortable to drive and without the air on had great power. It was also a head turner. Everywhere we went someone asked us about the car. On the downside I do think it is a bit over priced - but I still love it, and don't we buy what we love, sometimes no matter what the price is?

2011 Buick Regal

Now I can hear most of you saying to yourself "A Buick?" yes, the Buick does have a reputation of being "your Grandmothers car" and when I received the invitation to preview the car I have to admit I had mixed feelings and was not sure what to expect. The newly designed 2011 Buick Regal premium sports sedan is "wow"! If I could have a car all to myself for running errands, getting my nails done or even taking a drive down PCH - this would be the car I would choose! As soon as I sat in the car it felt as if the seats grabbed me and held me close :) LOL! Seriously - it felt that snug and comfortable. Now you have to admit - although most of us go into buying a vehicle with the intention of focusing on safety, gas mileage and price most will not buy a car that we are not attracted to. Pacific Coast Highway was literally the perfect background for the Buick. Take a look at how we spent the afternoon showing off the Buick....

Lincoln MKT - Safety

We've finally arrived in Santa Rosa for our Safari West tour. All in all it was a very comfortable drive. The Navigation System was a huge help up here in Santa Rosa. I'm so use to having to print out all the maps from Google before we leave the house and having to keep track of all the paperwork that this was just one less thing I had to worry about. The only drawback to this was we had to pull over or place the car in park every time we wanted to look for a location or add an address to our route. But that could have also been avoided by entering all your locations before you leave for your destination. I would be nice if they could have some kind of sensor in the passengers seat to verify there is a passenger and allow them to enter info while the driver is driving.

As we were leaving Safari West I thought I would put the child proof locks on the back doors - I am one of those moms who thinks my kids is going to open the door while driving and fall out. I guess it's always better to be safe than sorry anyway, right! Well I switched them on and could not close the door! My husband & I worked and worked trying to get this door to close. I was starting to panic as we had an appointment down in San Francisco that we had to get to soon! Of course I did not have any cell service up in the Santa Rosa Mountains so I frantically emailed one of my contacts at Ford hoping for a quick reply. The mechanics from Safari West ended up helping us out and it was something really simple that they seemed to do and we were finally able to be on our way! I'm still not sure what the heck was going on - I just knew I had to get to San Francisco!

We had a great time this week with the Lincoln MKT!! Before we head out I wanted to share with you some of the important safety features of the vehicle:

Rear View Camera - The rear view camera provides a video image of the area behind your vehicle on an eight-inch color touch screen. Color bars help you judge how far behind you objects are. The system works in conjunction with the reverse sensor system by alerting you with audio tones, while backing up.
AdvanceTrac - An electronic stability enhancement system. Provides enhanced side-slip control over stability control systems without RSC and delivers industry-leading electronic roll-over stability for the vehicle. The system features a vehicle-roll motion sensor that directly measures the vehicle's roll-rate at least 100 times every second. This helps determine when and how it will utilize the brakes to help keep all four wheels of the Lincoln MKT firmly planted.
MyKey - LOVE IT!! Allows you to program a restricted driving mode. With MyKey you can control what your teenager is doing while driving your car. You can limit top speed to 80 miles-per-hour and a speed alert chimes when you exceed a pre-selected vehicle speed of 45, 55 or 65 miles per hour. With MyKey you may also limit stereo volume to 45 percent of its maximum output. Safety features like the Belt Minder System cannot be disabled and the audio system will be muted if the car is started and seat belts are not buckled. The system works on one standard key supplied with your vehicle or any programmed spare key.
Tire Pressure Monitoring System - When the tire pressure goes below the recommended tire inflation level, a warning lamp is displayed along with a corresponding notification in the message center. I love this too - who has time to keep track of their tires?? :)

So we're packed up and ready to go - I was happily surprised at how much we were able to get in. Here's a quick video before we take off (this is a first for us & my son was behind the camera - so bear with us :)

Vista Roof - The panoramic fixed glass is a standard feature that offers a stunning view for both the first and second-row passengers. The Vista roof comes with a power sunshade to help keep your vehicle cool on warmer days. The kids loved this!!
Active Park Assist - The Lincoln MKT employs ultrasonic based sensors on the vehicle. After you push the park assist button, the sensors actually locate available parking spaces. Then with a few simple steps, the MKT controls the steering, while you control the accelerator and brake. Active Park Assist takes care of the rest. Active Park Assist is nearly three times faster than other vehicles with parking assist technologies. (We did not have a chance to use this feature, but I think it's great especially for people like me who have trouble parking!)
Blis with Cross Traffic Alert - The available BLIS (blind spot information system) sensors can detect another vehicle in your blind spot, and illuminates an indicator light in the exterior mirror. While backing out of a parking space, the cross traffic alert sensors can help detect if another vehicle is approaching from either side of your vehicle. It will then alert you with an audible tone and indicator light.
Capless Fuel Filler - Filling up the gas tank is no longer a messy affair because this innovative system uses no gas cap. After refueling, the system automatically seals shut. I love love love this!! How many times have we left our gas cap on top of the car? Especially as a Mother we have so much to take care of, think about and watch the kids on top of that - the gas cap is the last thing on our minds!

The Lincoln MKT was just delivered a couple hours ago - what a beautiful vehicle! I have to admit I'm not a van person, so this was pure pleasure. From the outside this looks like a classy, luxury SUV and it is just that. I have not seen many on the streets - but then that could also depend on where you live - as this is a pricey car. Just look at that grille - amazing! I can't tell you how many heads we saw turn or cars slow down as they drove by just within the two hours it's been here.

Well - we're about to put the roominess of the vehicle to the test - remember we're leaving for a week and there's two females along for the trip......hahaha!! We're headed up the coast to the San Francisco area and back down the California coast. I love it up there - one of my favorite places to visit! See ya all soon......

Celebrating a Birthday

If you are a regular reader you know that we recently celebrated our youngest daughter's fifth birthday. This was a big milestone for us; our baby growing up! Fall is in the air and the holidays we be here before we know it. I cannot believe how fast these last two months have flown by! I love the fall and winter seasons. It always seems like somehow the cold brings us closer together. It gives the house a warm feeling of togetherness, closeness, and love. One of my favorite things to do during the holiday season is light a fire in the fireplace and put on some good music. My parents favorite was Frank Sinatra. I have to tell you as soon as this CD started to play it reminded me of my parents and as a child listening to Frank. I have really never been a major fan of harry Connick Jr. but just fell in love with his newest CD. Plus, look at those lips, lol! How can you not pick up that CD!

Halloween Disney Style

Mickey's Trick or Treat Party is a huge event every year here in Southern California. For twelve nights in October California Adventure is transformed into the perfect Disneyland neighborhood to trick or treat! Opening night was this past Friday night, and our family was so graciously invited. We had been once a few years back and the kids just had a blast but were younger so did not have that much memory of it. I was so excited and could not believe how welcome Disneyland made us Mom Bloggers feel!

Children and adults are both welcome to dress up in their non-scary costumes and trick and treat at the 25 treat stops throughout the park. The 25 treat stops completely filled up the kids Halloween Mickey Buckets that were given to us upon check in. The kids got just as much as they did going around our neighborhood at home! Besides candy they also gave out bags of cheese it's, apple slices and dried fruit. Below is a picture of what the treat or treat stations look like throughout the park -
This is a separate ticket event which runs about $32 if purchased in advanced or $39 the day of the event. October 30Th and 31st is a bit higher. One of the many advantages of attending this special event is the lines for a good majority of the rides will be much shorter and quicker than usual. Many of the rides we were able to walk right onto without no wait. Still one of the most popular rides at Disney's California Adventure seems to be Toy Story. We waited in line for about a half hour, but continued to move and it went by fast. Toy Story is one of those rides that is definitely worth the wait, it is such a fun ride with lots of competition and a favorite of the kids. Another major advantage to this special event is all of the character opportunities you get. When we had gone to Disneyland the week before for our daughters fifth birthday it was so hard finding some of the characters and you had to make sure you were there at the right time. At the event there were characters throughout the park at stationed locations where they were there the entire four hours. The lines were short and again went quick! We even got to see some characters that are not out often during regular park hours.

The entertainment was out of this world! It was not just a show where you would take a seat or stand behind the yellow tape; this was something that made us all felt special and a part of the party. They had three areas set up with DJ's and dancers / entertainers where we were able to join in on the dancing and fun. It was really just amazing - something you have to experience. Can you believe how fast this summer went! We are counting down our last week of summer here in the high desert of California, although we will still be dealing with high temperatures in the 100's. It is back to school for the kids, and I have to say they are extremely excited. We had to make a special countdown calendar for the little ones, where they tear off one page everyday that goes by. Our youngest son will be going into first grade, and our baby girl is entering Kindergarten. My baby in Kindergarten, wow, just brings tears to my eyes thinking about my baby growing up, officially starting school, and gaining more and more independence as the days go by.
